though independent series, both moribund and immortelle combine to create the body of work known as halcyon .

short statement
immortelle is a series of painted moths and butterflies inspired by mortality and preservation. all life is temporary though memories may immortalize what has since faded. the works presented capture likenesses of their real life counterparts. even this form of preservation is temporary as the physical pieces may be destroyed during or after my lifetime. I would like to believe my art has a chance of surviving me, even if momentarily.

short statement
as moribund dives into mortality it confronts the progressive decay that follows. exoskeletons are arranged in ways to simulate environments they may have inhabited. they lay upon silk flowers like those found on graves. though the conditions of specimen worsen, their spirit lingers. i alone take care of these found husks. as my paintings that accompany them will one day disappear for good, the insects will share similar fate. (because the photos were significantly reduced in quality to fit upload limitations, there is no full size image option.)
